History
The Kent Nutrition Group story began in 1927 with the founding of Kent Feeds near Indianola, Iowa. There, Gage Kent revolutionized the cattle feeding industry with the introduction of Kent Baby Beef™ – the original “Feed Without A Filler.”
Most cattle feeds at that time were formulated with little regard for nutritional needs. Kent Baby Beef was manufactured using only top-quality ingredients and no filler materials, setting a new standard for the industry.
Continued expansion
Business grew and in 1936, operations were moved to Muscatine, Iowa, to take advantage of the economical Mississippi River transportation. Through the years, Kent Feeds continued to expand its product offerings with swine, beef, dairy, poultry, specialty and pet products. Additional Kent plants were built to meet the increasing demand for its products.
In 1955, Kent Feeds purchased what is now a 650-acre Product Development Center complex. It is here where nutrition research, feed development, feeding programs and trials are ongoing to improve productivity and efficiency for commercial livestock production, and to refine the nutritional needs of lifestyle animal groups.
A significant expansion of geography and product offerings began in 1983, when Kent Feeds acquired Evergreen Mills, an animal feed manufacturer headquartered in Ada, Oklahoma. Five years later Kent Feeds acquired Blue Seal Feeds, one of the largest and most respected feed manufacturing companies in the Northeast.
Kent Nutrition Group formed
In 2010, it was announced Kent, Blue Seal and Evergreen Mills would consolidate to form one new company called the Kent Nutrition Group. This company was created to better serve the evolving needs of specific customer segments and operates under two divisions — feed and pet. The feed division is focused on commercial livestock productivity for beef, pork and dairy, as well as country lifestyle animals, including equine, poultry, goats, alpaca and rabbits, for example.
The pet division is made up individual product for dogs and cats.
The Kent Nutrition Group operates several plants throughout the Midwest, Southwest and Northeast. A subsidiary of the Muscatine Foods Corporation, The Kent Nutrition Group remains part of a family owned network of companies including Grain Processing Corporation of Muscatine, Iowa, and Precision Foods, of St. Louis, Missouri.
